Jones, Cumming Inducted Into the HOF

Two more names are now officially enshrined in the Thunder Bay District Golf of Fame. Congratulations to Trevor Jones and Bob Cumming on their respective inductions.

Trevor was inducted as an Amateur Player and is regarded as one of the best local golfers in history. Trevor's resume is endless, but some of his most notable accomplishments include:

  • Winning the District Open three times,
  • Winning the District Amateur four times,
  • Winning the Strathcona Invitational five times,
  • Winning the District Pro-Am four times over three different decades, and
  • Being named Strathcona's Golfer of the Decade twice (1980s and 1990s).

In 1985, Trevor became the first player to complete the grand slam (i.e., winning all three majors in the same year). He is also the only player to complete the career grand slam three times over. Trevor also won - some on multiple occasions - the Bergstrom in Geraldton, the Fort William Invitational, the Thunder Bay Invitational, the Terrace Bay Open, the club championship at Strathcona GC, and the club championship at Fort William CC.

Bob was inducted as a Builder, and he is owed endless thanks for is dedication to the game of golf in the Thunder Bay District. Bob spent many years both growing the game and preserving its long, local history. On multiple occasions, Bob chaired the Strathcona Men's Club, the Strathcona Junior Club, and, most notably, the Strathcona Invitational. Bob served as Chairman of the Strathcona Invitational on twelve different occasions, but his devoted involvement in that tournament spans over the course of many more decades. Bob was also responsible for the publication of The Invitational at Strathcona: A 75 Year History. This 132-page program covers, with in-depth detail, the history of Strathcona GC from 1930 to 2005.
