Kirk defends District Amateur Title

Congratulations to Jeremy Kirk (Fort William CC) for winning the 2022 Teleco District Amateur Championship. With the win, Jeremy becomes only the eleventh player in history (since 1926) to win back-to-back Colonel Little trophies. Jeremy's three-day total of 216 was just enough to edge past Colin Sobey (Centennial Pines GC) by one stroke.

On the seventeenth hole, Jeremy sunk a fifteen-foot putt for par to maintain a one-stroke lead over Colin. Both players then scored a par-5 on the eighteenth hole. Jeremy's final round score of 73 included seventeen pars and one bogey.

Jeremy began the final round tied for the lead with Kevin Jackson (Fort William CC) but quickly fell behind after Kevin sank long birdie putts on the first two holes. Kevin held this lead until the twelfth hole but ultimately finished in third place after erring down the stretch. Cooper Anderson (Fort William CC) finished in fourth at 222, while the reigning District Junior Champion, Jack Moro (Whitewater GC), placed fifth at 224.

In the second flight, Scott Wilke (Strathcona GC) and Casey Niemi (Public Player) shared first prize after shooting identical final-round scores of 75 to finish at 227. Samuel Orr (Fort William CC) rounded out the top three, finishing one shot back at 228.

In the third flight, John Shaw (Whitewater GC) lead wire-to-wire to win by three strokes over Landon Maunula (Whitewater GC) at 229. John started the final round one stroke ahead of Mike Winters (Aguasabon GC), who ultimately finished in third at 233.

In the fourth flight, Jared van Elburg (Northern Lights GC) erased a three-shot deficit over his final nine holes to come from behind and beat Trevor Green (Centinnel Pines GC) by one stroke. Jared finished the event at 238. Hank Wilke (Strathcona GC), a three-time District Amateur winner, finished in third at 241.

In the fifth flight, Bryan Burgess (Strathcona GC) claimed victory over Tyson Bouchard (Fort William CC) who, himself, shot a stellar final-round score to climb up the flighted leaderboard. Bryan finished the tournament at 244, four shots ahead of Tyson. Jason Humphrey (Strathcona GC) ended in third at 249.
